When You Can’t Find What You Need, Create It

Today I was inspired. I was inspired in a way I hope to inspire others. I thought it would be good to share this story in the hopes it will inspire you, too. And if you would like to get involved in this, I’ll let you know how you can do that.

Some of you may know that I work as an independent contractor for an internet marketing company. I’m building my business on the side, (like a lot of people are doing these days), which is how you came to be on this list. The best part about the internet marketing gig is that I get to meet so many amazing people and today was no exception.

Here is what happened…A girl called in to find out what the pricing would be for a website. That isn’t so unusual. But it’s what she wanted the website to do that touched my heart in a big way. She has a mental illness. And she has found it’s difficult for her to find other people like her to socialize with, to find work, and to get help at times when she needs it.

So she’s creating her own social channel for herself and people like her that will give them a place to meet and be safe and find work and ask a doctor questions if they’re having a hard time. And the company I’m a contractor for is going to help her build this platform. And that makes me feel really good about the people I work with.

I haven’t thought that much about people with mental illnesses before today because I don’t have people in my day to day life that have one. A lot of people have mental illnesses. When I was listening to her talk about her ideas and why she wants to build the site my heart really felt compassion for her path. And it made me want to help her.

So I thought it would be nice to check in with you people and see if you would want to help her. I was thinking it would be really cool if we could contribute to her efforts. She needs to raise $1,000 to get phase 1 of the site built. I know times are difficult, but if we all gave $10 it would do a lot. And it would feel good, too.
